Cybernetics Library Projects

Project description:

An expansive collection of over 2,000 materials, the Cybernetics Library brings together texts ranging from media theory, cognitive science, and architecture to grassroots zines, rare archival material and ephemera, artists’ publications and technical literature. The Cybernetics Library is a collective organization that builds upon its continually evolving collection and technological components, generating feedback between materials in the collection, its digital systems, physical installations, and visitors themselves.

This project develops tools for building, traversing, and enriching the Cybernetics Library collection, creating a digital presence for the library to sustain its work of collecting and recoding ideas across various fields to reposition cybernetics as a generative approach to understanding how we are embedded in pervasive technological systems.

I'm currently focused on the following prototypes:

  • An image library - an open/living archive where visitors can browse & contribute images - of diagrams, photographs, graphic & visual elements, & any other fragments from materials in the collection - by linking them to specific resources in the catalog.

  • A homepage for the library

With the support of the Imagination Fund, I will be able to devote the time and energy to refining and integrating these efforts toward a public-facing launch.
