When I was younger many Asian parents around me discouraged pursuing a career in an arts-heavy way like making books or magazines. This sentiment created a lot of rifts between various friends and siblings. Even when I would see online that authors had made such integral parts of my childhood, why wouldn't I want to be a part of that?I became even more conflicted when watching interviews with CEOs, politicians, and celebrities, and everyone said that a big dream of theirs was to write a book. This bewildered me because the parents around me had no such dreams to impart to their children even though they wanted their children to work for these successful people. More importantly, these world-famous people wanted to own their words and narratives.So when I learned about Zines, I realized I could publish something myself. Even if it is independent, and may get lower viewership, I could own my story!Although my creative journey ends here right now, I believe I can do much more and I hope that resonates with you all!So getting printed and selling 10 copies is a crazy achievement and I hope I can continue!

My project will be my most writing-heavy one to date.Writing has been a personal insecurity for me, and I intend to confront this challenge head-on. As an AAPI creator, choosing the right words and themes to express my emotions is paramount. I see this project as a form of therapy for both myself and my readers, who often share similar experiences.Zines are the perfect experimental medium for me to work with, and I hope this project will inspire other young creators to publish their work and see it in a physical format.
